How to remove a Facebook post about your business

Local groups are where this does real damage, and they are the hardest part to reach.

Short answer

Report the post through Facebook's reporting flow, and separately contact the group's admins where it appears in a community group, since admins can remove posts the platform will not. Facebook does not remove criticism of a business. False factual claims are handled through Meta's defamation reporting form rather than the standard flow.

The group admin is the fastest route

Most reputational damage on Facebook happens in local community groups, not on public pages. Those groups have human admins with full removal power and their own rules, and those rules are frequently stricter than Facebook's.

A short, factual, non-aggressive message to an admin noting that a post makes a false claim, with the correction attached, resolves these faster than any platform report. Admins are usually volunteers who dislike moderating disputes and will often act to end one.

A polite note to a volunteer admin outperforms a formal report to a platform.

What the platform will and will not do

  • Will act on: harassment of a named individual, threats, hate speech, impersonation of your business, and content that reveals private information.
  • Will not act on: a customer saying your business was bad, expensive, rude or slow, regardless of accuracy.
  • Separate route: false statements of fact, through Meta's legal reporting form.

Impersonation is the underused ground

Pages set up to look like your business, using your name and logo to post complaints or scam customers, breach impersonation policy and are removed relatively reliably.

This is worth checking whenever a strange post appears. What looks like a customer complaint is sometimes a fake page, and that is a much stronger case than a defamation argument.

Common questions

Can I get a whole group taken down?

Very rarely, and only where the group itself exists to harass. Individual posts and the admin route are far more productive.

Should I respond in the group?

One measured factual reply, then stop. Extended arguments in local groups reliably make the thread larger and more visible.

Do fake check-ins or ratings count?

Facebook page recommendations can be reported like reviews, and coordinated fake recommendations are actionable when the pattern is shown.
