How to remove a bad restaurant review

High volume, thin margins, and one specific category of review that is worth fighting.

Short answer

Report it against a platform policy: not a customer, about a different location, a personal attack on staff, or an extortion attempt. Reviews describing a genuinely bad meal are not removable. For restaurants the higher-return work is usually volume and recency, because a single bad review among many recent ones changes very little.

The one category worth fighting hard

Most bad restaurant reviews are someone's genuine experience of a bad night, and no platform will remove them. One category is different: the review used as leverage.

A guest who demands a refund or a free meal and threatens a review if refused has committed something platforms treat seriously. Save the message. That evidence is worth far more than any complaint about the review itself, and it is the strongest report you can file. See how to remove a Tripadvisor review.

Save the threatening message. It is better evidence than the review it produced.

Wrong-location reviews are common and removable

Multi-site operators and restaurants with similar names collect reviews meant for somewhere else constantly. These are straightforwardly removable and are frequently left in place because nobody checks.

Read every new review against your actual bookings and covers. A review describing a dish you do not serve or a room you do not have is a free removal.

Why volume matters more here than anywhere

Restaurants generate more reviews than almost any other business, which cuts both ways. A single one-star sinks a profile with twelve reviews and vanishes on a profile with four hundred.

The operational fix is a consistent ask at the right moment, without screening for who is likely to be positive, which is prohibited everywhere. See how reviews affect restaurant bookings.

Common questions

Can I remove a review about slow service on a busy night?

No. That is a customer's genuine experience and no platform will act on it.

What if the reviewer never dined with us?

Check the booking system and card records, then report on the not-a-customer ground with that evidence attached.

Should we reply to every review?

Reply to recent and detailed ones. The reply is read by the next diner, not by the reviewer.
