How to remove your name from Google search
You cannot remove a name. You can act on the specific pages behind it, one at a time.
There is no way to remove a name from Google as a whole. Search results are generated from pages other people publish, so the work is done page by page: get the source removed or amended, use the narrow personal-information removal routes where they apply, and reduce the visibility of what remains. Anyone offering to erase your name entirely is describing something that does not exist.
Start with an inventory, not an emotion
Search your name in a private window, in quotes, and with the variations people actually use: name plus city, name plus profession, name plus the word that worries you. Record every result on the first three pages.
Then sort them into four columns: things you control, things a cooperative third party controls, things a hostile third party controls, and things nobody will move. Almost every plan goes wrong because these were treated as one pile.

Work the columns in order
- Yours. Old profiles, abandoned accounts, forgotten directory listings. Delete or update them. This is the fastest visible progress available and it is free.
- Cooperative third parties. Former employers, associations, event listings. A polite request removes more of these than people assume.

The removal routes that exist for individuals
Google will remove results containing personal identifying information such as government identifiers, bank details, medical records, home address or personal contact details where there is a risk of harm. It will also act on non-consensual explicit imagery and on doxxing content.
These are real and underused. They do not cover general embarrassment, an unflattering article, or a business dispute.
Common questions
Does deleting my social accounts remove me from search?
It removes those specific results once the pages are gone, but it does not affect anything published by others, and it can remove profiles you would rather rank than the alternatives.
Can I stop Google indexing my name?
No. You can only affect the individual pages, because there is nothing to index if no page mentions you.
How long does progress take?
