Can a business owner delete Google reviews?

No, and understanding exactly why explains which routes are left and which are dead ends.

Short answer

No. A business owner cannot delete a Google review. Only the author can delete their own review, or Google can remove it for breaking a content policy. Any service claiming it can simply delete reviews on request is either reporting them like anyone else or doing something that puts your listing at risk.

Why the delete button does not exist

Reviews are the product. A platform where businesses could remove criticism would have worthless reviews, so the ability was never built. What exists instead is a reporting mechanism against published rules, and a separate legal system outside the platform entirely.

This is worth being precise about, because it determines what you should pay for. There are only three ways a Google review comes down: the author removes it, Google removes it for a policy breach, or a court order compels action.

What that leaves you

  • Report a policy violation. The main route. Covered in what actually qualifies a Google review for removal.
  • Resolve it with the author. Legitimate if you fix the underlying problem and they choose to update it. Not legitimate if you pay for it.
  • A legal route. Only where the content is factually false rather than unflattering. See is a negative review defamation.
  • Outweigh it. Slower, unglamorous, and the only option when the review is simply true.

What to be sceptical of

If a vendor promises to delete any review regardless of content, ask which policy they intend to cite. A real answer names a ground. A vague answer usually means bulk false flagging, which fails and can draw scrutiny to your listing.

We take the same position on our own service: we tell you at scan which items are viable and decline the ones that are not, rather than billing for attempts. That is the point of a removal-first approach rather than an open-ended retainer.

Common questions

Can I ask a customer to take their review down?

You can ask, once, without offering anything in return. Offering an incentive is review gating and creates a bigger problem than the review.

What about deleting the whole listing and starting again?

Reviews generally follow the business, and a new listing loses your history and local ranking. It very rarely improves the situation.

Do review removal guarantees exist?

Nobody can guarantee a specific review will come down, because the decision is not theirs. What can be guaranteed is commercial: we refund any accepted item still published after 14 days.
